Prevent Injury and Reduce Pain With Icing and Stretching

At Mahle Chiropractic, we believe that treating an injury quickly is the very best type of care. With proper icing, stretching, and heating at home.

If you suffer from a specific condition, we'll be glad to provide you with personalized stretching, icing, and heating techniques.

General Icing and Heating Advice

When icing any part of your body, the ice should be wrapped in about one layer of a towel and never placed directly against your skin. We recommend icing a strain, sprain, or painful area once an hour at least 3 to 5 times per day.
  • Neck — 5-10 minutes
  • Middle back — 10-15 minutes
  • Lower back — 15-20 minutes
  • All other joints, including elbows, shoulders, knees, etc. — 15-20 minutes
In some cases, applying heat may help control muscle spasms. When heat is required, a hot shower is always better than a heating pack.
